New Technologies

Research activities are mainly focused on:

Materials Technologies: Activities are carried out at both ENEA research centres and some participated companies and are mainly related to applied research for the creation of new materials and new components to support energy technologies in view of a sustainable economic development.

Radiation Applications: ENEA conducts research, innovation and technology transfer for the application of ionizing and non-ionizing radiations; it also develops particles accelerators, systems, micro-components and nanostructures for optoelectronics and photonics. Among such technologies applications, the following are particularly worth mentioning: anti-counterfeiting, environmental diagnostics, cultural heritage, security, industrial and medical applications.

Sustainable Development and Agro-Industrial Innovation: ENEA’s mission also includes the innovation of the national agro-industrial production system in order to obtain competitive food products with more sustainable and energy-efficient processes. The “made in Italy” agro-food is valorized along the whole food production chain, whilst actions supporting human health and consumers’ safety are implemented.

ICT: ENEA focuses its R&D on  high-performance and distributed computing; very-high-performance data transmission networks; integration of heterogeneous systems such as scientific facilities and laboratories; special applications specifically oriented to manufacturing and cultural heritage.

ENEA dedicates its more than twenty years experience to the know-how, conservation and valorization of the Country’s cultural and artistic heritage, by applying its advanced know-how, sophisticated technologies, complex test facilities, data processing and interpretation skills.

Finally, ENEA carries out technology transfer aimed at increasing the Italian economic system’s  competitiveness within the framework of sustainable development.
