Smart city: Ravenna, a new "digital" life for the Darsena

Digital regeneration of the Darsena of Ravenna with the creation of a large technological platform that collects and manages data on traffic, environmental pollution and energy consumption of street lamps, buildings and individual dwellings. This is the objective of the project DARE, with which the Municipality of Ravenna obtained one of the highest funding (over 5 million euro) at the 4th European call for tenders "Urban Innovative Action", ranking among the top 20 cities out of 176.

Building sector: The “bio-brick" avoids the need for air conditioning

A "bio-brick" in a composite material ideal for our climate, capable of maintaining an average indoor temperature of 26 degrees during heat, avoiding the need for air conditioning. It’s one of the results of the study conducted by ENEA and Politecnico di Milano as part of the project "Energy requalification of existing public buildings: nZEB direction", funded by the Electrical System Research of the Ministry of Economic Development.

Innovation: ENEA-IEG agreement for circular economy, energy and sustainable mobility

Federico Testa, President of ENEA, and Lorenzo Cagnoni, President of the Italian Exhibition Group (IEG), have signed a three-year collaboration agreement for the circular economy, renewable sources, sustainable mobility, smart cities and other possible sectors of interest. In particular, ENEA will provide support to IEG in the definition of innovative technical contents, transfer of innovation, promotion of sustainability issues, training and professional updating for industries, SMEs and operators and information and communication activities

Technology: At ENEA the first European Institutional mirror of Software Heritage

The ENEA Research Center in Bologna will host the first Italian Mirror of World’s Largest Source Codes Archive: the Software Heritage Archive. Software Heritage is an established non-profit initiative launched by Inria, the French National Institute for Digital Sciences, aimed at collecting, organizing, preserving and sharing all publicly available open source code. Sharing the vision that software is a precious part of our cultural heritage, ENEA is very proud to collaborate to this important project by keeping a full copy of the contents of the archive.

Automotive: ENEA and FIAT Research Center study new recyclable materials

Developing innovative composite materials in basalt fiber and resin for the automotive sector, which are recyclable, lightweight and low cost. This is the objective of the new project "Cradle-to-Cradle Composites", funded with over 1.3 million euro by the European raw materials consortium EIT Raw Materials and coordinated by ENEA jointly with the FIAT Research Center ( CRF). In particular, ENEA will test the mechanical properties of new materials and verify their performance also in the presence of accelerated aging.

Climate-Energy: New weather-climate service predicts electricity production from renewable sources

Predicting electricity production from renewable sources up to three months for an increasingly efficient management of the electricity grid. It’s the objective of an innovative weather-climate service developed by the European project "Sub-seasonal to Seasonal Climate Predictions for Energy" (S2S4E), funded by the Horizon2020 program with almost 5 million euro and coordinated by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center in collaboration with 11 European partners including ENEA, and energy operators such as the French EDF.
