Energy: SOFT 2018, the 30th edition of the Symposium on Fusion Technology to kick off

The 30th edition of the Symposium on Fusion Technology (SOFT), organized by ENEA, one of the most important international conferences in nuclear fusion energy research, is to be held in Giardini Naxos, (Messina), from September 16 to September 21. For five days, approximately 950 of the world's leading scientists, over 60 industry representatives and 30 exhibitors, will meet and discuss the most significant innovations in the path to reproducing on earth the mechanisms that fuel the stars, with the aim of providing an inexhaustible, safe, clean energy source, capable of satisfying the world’s growing energy needs.

New NATO project to help with real-time detection of explosives in public transport

A new NATO project, EXTRAS, led by research institutions in Italy and Serbia, will make it possible to detect explosives and prevent terrorist attacks on public transport. The project, funded by NATO’s Science for Peace and Security (SPS) Programme, will use laser spectroscopy to identify explosive materials on potential bombers.

Research: 2.5 million fund established to "bring” new technologies to industry

ENEA launches the new "Proof of Concept" program which foresees the allocation of 2.5 million euros over three years to "bring" the research outcomes of the Agency to industrial use. The fund will provide the Agency's researchers with the financial resources to build industrial prototypes, increasing the level of maturity of the technologies developed in the laboratory. The call for tenders to select the projects to be funded, which will be subsequently selected by a panel of experts, has already started this month.

Energy: Italy, a new training hub to be set up thanks to “Hausmann & Co - Patek Philippe” Award

The 6th edition of the award, established by the famous watch brands "Hausmann & Co and Patek Philippe", allocated funds to start a new training hub at the ENEA Casaccia Research Center, just outside Rome, and assigned grants to young researchers of the Agency, who have made significant contribution to research in the fields of energy, new technologies, food safety, health, the environment and climate.

ENEA magazine “Energy, the Environment and Innovation” latest issue highlights include circular economy, green jobs, carbon footprint.
