Energy: The ENEA project worth 3.6 million euros for the grids of the future is underway

It’s called Smart Energy Microgrid and it is the experimental grid that ENEA will build at the Research Center of Portici (Naples), as part of the MISSION project, financed with 3,6 million euros from the program Innovation Mission. The goal is to interconnect end users with energy production plants, storage systems, micro and nanogrids in an innovative integrated and digitized multi-energy system, equipped with pervasive sensors (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) to increase resilience and reliability of the energy infrastructures of the future.

Energy: ENEA in the 2.5 million euros EU project to promote renewable energy communities (RECs)

Supporting the dissemination of Renewable Energy Communities on a local, national and European scale, identifying barriers, opportunities, measures and specific technological solutions for each geographical context. This is the goal of the EU project COME RES[1], funded by the Horizon2020 program with 2.5 million euro- which includes ENEA among its research partners- to facilitate the exchange of experiences and transfer of good practices to “less advanced” contexts.

Agriculture: Announced winners of the Carlotta Award 2022 for wheat research

The winners of the second edition of the Carlotta Award, addressed to women scientists under 40 engaged in wheat research, promoted by ENEA, National Academy of Sciences, known as the XL (40) and METROFOOD-RI have been announced. Health: Next-generation vaccines and diagnostics to prevent livestock reproductive diseases of worldwide impact

Horizon Europe, the European Union research and innovation funding programme, has recently funded the new project REPRODIVAC. The aim of the project will be to develop innovative vaccines and diagnostics for endemic and zoonotic reproductive pathogens of livestock to improve animal welfare, reduce antimicrobial usage in farming, protect public health with a ‘One Health’ perspective, and strengthen the profitability of food animal systems.

Antarctica: 38th italian expedition kicks off with 240 researchers and 50 projects

The arrival of the first technical crew at the Mario Zucchelli station in Baia Terra Nova marked the beginning of the 38th Italian expedition to Antarctica, which involves 240 technicians and researchers working on 50 projects, mainly focused on atmospheric sciences, geology, paleoclimate, biology, oceanography and astronomy. The research activities will be conducted at the Zucchelli and Italian-French Concordia bases as well as on board the Italian research vessel Laura Bassi and some Antarctic stations of other countries. The expedition, funded by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR), is part of the National Research Program in Antarctica (PNRA), managed by ENEA for logistical planning and the National Research Council (Cnr) for scientific planning.

Agri-food: New organic layer to make fruit and vegetables last longer

ENEA has developed a transparent coating made of grapefruit and apple extracts to be applied on fresh produce. A new low-cost, anti-mold coating to be applied directly on fruit and vegetables to preserve their quality and nutritional properties for up to ten days, which ENEA has developed jointly with the University of Salerno (Department of Industrial Engineering), it appeared in the journal Nanomaterials.
