Environment: From ENEA new model to estimate Mediterranean sea-level change

ENEA climate modeling researchers have developed an advanced mathematical model, called MED16, capable of reproducing as faithfully as possible the VARIABILITY of Mediterranean Sea LEVEL, from the past to the future. "The latest 2021 IPCC report points out that average projections of sea level rise are not accurate enough for marginal basins like the Mediterranean, which require specific models. Our study finally fills this scientific gap ", explained Gianmaria Sannino, head of the ENEA laboratory of Climate Modeling and Impacts and author of the new study Modelling present and future climate in the Mediterranean Sea: a focus on sea-level change.

Space: Ranzo (Avio), independent space launch capability is crucial

"Maintaning an independent launch capability is crucial for economic, strategic and safety reasons: entrusting some particularly important loads or satellites to a foreign company may not guarantee the necessary confidentiality and timeliness requirements. The same would happen if a satellite is no longer used and it is necessary to replace it quickly ”.

Energy: 20 tips to save on your bills

“A few simple and cost-effective steps are enough to reduce our bills, and further significant savings can be obtained by conducting maintenaince operations, controlling and regulating room temperature, replacing energy-intensive appliances with more efficient models, or even insulating buildings, a structural intervention whose cost is currently covered by a 110% tax deduction called Superbonus ”, explained Ilaria Bertini, Head of the ENEA Energy Efficiency Department.

Antarctica: Winter campaign to study climate and biomedicine takes off

The 18th winter campaign of the National Research Program in Antarctica (PNRA), funded by the Ministry of University and Research and managed by ENEA for logistics and the CNR for scientific coordination, takes off. “Usually, the beginning of the winter season on the Antarctic plateau marks the end of the summer expedition; this year, for the first time, the research work will continue until the end of March in the Ross Sea aboard the icebreaker Laura Bassi", said expedition leader Alberto della Rovere of ENEA, who coordinates the activities of the Mario Zucchelli Station, from where the last researchers and technicians will reach the US base of McMurdo before continuing on to New Zealand and then to Italy.
