SCIENTIFIC TOPICS

The list of themes as highlighted below for the Tezpur Summer School, 2014 is chosen on the basis of the underlying objectives of the SAHYOG project in general.

The future bio-based economy as envisaged in the SAHYOG project, has its requirement of ecological sustainability of biomass production with economic viability for meeting societal concerns. Further, a cascading use of biomass for high-value materials, which are reused in bulk materials and finally used for production of biofuels and power is the ultimate objective of the biobased economy.

In this perspective, the following themes are chosen to cover both upstream and downstream processes of biomass production and utilization. Further, themes on life cycle analysis and societal impacts of biomass production & utilization are also included:

  •  Biomass assessment, characterization, production and improvement;
  • Biomass conversion: Science, Technology, and Biotechnology;
  • Sustainability and LCA of biomass use;
  • Biomass, society and rural development
