ARCH Project | 7th General Assembly meeting

The impacts of climate change are global in scope and unprecedented in scale. Cities will face frequent extreme events in future and the risk to cultural heritage and historic urban centres from climate change will also increase.

ARCH, Advancing Resilience of Historic Areas against Climate-related and other Hazards, is a European-funded research project (HORIZON 2020) that aims to better preserve areas of cultural heritage from hazards and risks. ARCH‘s expert interdisciplinary team includes several EU research institutions and four European municipalities, namely Bratislava, Camerino, Hamburg, and Valencia; along with city network ICLEI, standardisation organisation DIN and ETRI Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, South Korea. The ARCH team together with the pilot cities have co-created tools that will support cities enhancing the resilience of their historic areas and cultural heritage from the effects of climate change. ENEA has been leading in the ARCH project the work package related to “Impact and Risk Assessment”.

ARCH has developed a disaster risk management framework for assessing and improving the resilience of historic areas to climate change and natural hazards. Tools and methodologies have been designed for local authorities and practitioners, the urban population, and national and international expert communities.

During the General Assembly event that will be jointly hosted in Rome 3^rd and 4^th May 2022  by ENEA and INGV various models, methods, tools and datasets to support decision-making developed in the framework of the ARCH project will be presented and showcased.

Gli impatti dei cambiamenti climatici sono di portata globale. Le città dovranno affrontare frequenti eventi estremi sempre più severi e aumenterà il rischio anche per il patrimonio culturale per i nostri preziosi centri storici che svolgono un ruolo primario nella vita e nel benessere delle comunità.

ARCH, Advancing Resilience of Historic Areas against Climate-related and other Hazards, è un progetto di ricerca finanziato dall'Europa (HORIZON 2020) che mira a preservare meglio le aree del patrimonio culturale da pericoli e rischi. Il team interdisciplinare di esperti di ARCH comprende diversi istituti di ricerca europei e quattro comuni europei, vale a dire Bratislava, Camerino, Amburgo e Valencia; insieme alla rete cittadina ICLEI, ente di normalizzazione DIN ed ETRI, Istituto di ricerca sull'elettronica e le telecomunicazioni, della Corea del Sud. Il team di ARCH, insieme alle città pilota, ha co-creato strumenti che supporteranno le città migliorando la resilienza delle loro aree storiche e del patrimonio culturale dagli effetti del cambiamento climatico. L'ENEA ha guidato nel progetto ARCH il work package relativo a “Valutazione dell’Impatto e dei Rischi”.

ARCH ha sviluppato un quadro di gestione del rischio di catastrofi per valutare e migliorare la resilienza delle aree storiche ai cambiamenti climatici e ai rischi naturali. Strumenti e metodologie sono stati progettati per le autorità e gli operatori locali, la popolazione urbana e le comunità di esperti nazionali e internazionali.

Durante l'evento dell'Assemblea Generale, che sarà ospitato il 3 e il 4 maggio 2022 a Roma congiuntamente da ENEA e INGV, verranno presentati vari modelli, metodi, strumenti e basi dati a supporto del processo decisionale sviluppati nell'ambito del progetto ARCH.
