The Energy Efficiency directive and its impacts at European level
Though the Energy Service Directive implementation is still the most powerful driving force in improving end-use energy efficiency and in creating the energy service market in the EU, there is a need for a new set of measures to reach the 2020 Energy Efficiency target. To this aim the Commission, in mid-2011, has drafted a new Energy Efficiency Directive proposal as part of its effort to reach such a target.

The purpose of the event is to provide an overview of the draft proposal set to underpin the bloc’s efforts to cut 20% of Europe’s energy consumption by the end of the decade, along with some of the main results so far achieved in terms of energy savings from the implementation of the ESD 2006/32/EC in one big EU Member State (Italy).
The presentation about what occurred between the first NEEAP(2007) and the second NEEAP(2011), in terms of best practices and most cost-effective EE improvement measures adopted, in each end-use sector, can contribute to fill the gap, put back the MSs on track and facilitate the implementation of the new EED.
