2nd European Conference on Detection of Explosives - EUCDE

In 2008 the European Commission has adopted an action plan on enhancing the security of explosives. A major topic in the action plan is detection of explosives. The European Commission supports the organisation of a conference for executive bodies, users, industries, research and development partners on explosive detection technologies. After the successful first European Conference on Detection of Explosives in 2010 in Avignon, France, the second European Conference on Detection of Explosives in 2013 will take place in Rome, Italy.

The theme of this event is “Closing the gap”. The aim is to evaluate the progress in explosives detection technologies and future needs to counteract the increased and diversified security threat. Appropriate detection techniques are needed to increase the security of citizens in public places and large events and to protect critical infrastructure, aviation and other public transport systems.
The different application fields require specific solutions with tailored detection systems. The 2nd EUCDE should give an overview on state of the art of explosives detection technologies, should introduce new technical approaches and should discuss R&D future needs as well as standardisation issues, thus making clear the steps that are necessary and feasible to close any capability gaps in the field of detection of explosives.
The EUCDE is an open event and the presentations will be unclassified.
