Energy Efficiency: the European framework and the Italian Annual Report
ENEA, the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development,
acts as national Agency for Energy Efficiency, established by a legislative decree as a transposition of
directive 2006/32/EC on energy end-use efficiency and energy services. In this capacity, ENEA publishes the
Italian ‘Energy Efficiency Annual Report’, based on 2017 data and some insights from 2018. This Report is a useful tool to evaluate results and optimize national policies and measures in this area.

Energy efficiency continues to be at the top of the European Union political agenda as confirmed by the adoption of a package of legislative measures, ‘Clean Energy for All Europeans’, and in particular by the revision of the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) and of the European Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), in line with the 2030 energy and climate goals. Italy welcomes this new approach, which promises to be the best drive for the most innovative energy efficiency measures for the years to come.
