Numerosi terremoti violenti colpiscono varie aree del pianeta, con intensità ben superiori a quelle previste per la progettazione delle strutture. Tra queste un’attenzione particolare meritano gli impianti industriali a rischio di incidente rilevante, sono particolarmente esposti a causa del numero e della complessità delle strutture e dei componenti critici. Per questi sono necessarie tecniche antisismiche, come l’isolamento sismico, in grado di fornire una protezione completa, anche in caso di eventi estremi, superiori a quelli di progetto

 

Seismic isolation of plants at risk of a severe accident

More and more devastating earthquakes struck every year our planet. Many of these, though occurring in areas considered at high risk of earthquakes, far exceed the levels required by law. The industrial plants subjected to risk of severe accident, in particular petrochemical and nuclear power plants, are particularly exposed to this risk because of the number and the complexity of the structures and critical components of which they are composed. For this type of structures, anti-seismic techniques able to provide complete protection, even in case of unforeseen events, are needed. Seismic isolation is certainly the most promising technology of modern antiseismic as it allows not only to significantly reduce the dynamic load acting on the structures in case of seismic attack, but to provide safety margins against violent earthquakes, exceeding the assumed maximum design limit
